چکیده

In this paper, we study sliding window decoding of braided convolutional codes (BCCs) in the context of a streaming application, where decoder error propagation can be a serious problem. A window extension algorithm and a resynchronization mechanism are introduced to mitigate the effect of error propagation. In addition, we introduce a soft bit-error-rate stopping rule to reduce computational complexity, and the tradeoff between performance and complexity is examined. Simulation results show that, using the proposed window extension algorithm and resynchronization mechanism, the error performance of BCCs can be improved by up to three orders of magnitude with reduced computational complexity.

A Decoding Algorithm for Some Convolutional Codes Constructed from Block Codes

A new decoding algorithm for some convolution~l codes constructed from block codes is given. The algorithm utilizes the decoding algorithm for the corresponding block code. It is shown that the codes obtained from one-step orthogonalizable block codes are majority deeodable. Error propagation in some of these convolutional codes is studied. It is shown that if decoded with moderately reduced ca...

Analysis of thresholds for braided block codes in BEC

Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, invented by Gallager [2], who described and analyzed a block variant of the codes, arouse great interest of researchers. These codes are widely used in practice since they can be decoded by using relatively simple iterative decoding algorithms. Several modifications of these codes are known, in particular, generalized LDPC codes [3]. In contrast to Gallage...

CONVOLUTIONAL APPROACH FOR DECODING FEC IN LTE AND WiMAX SYSTEMS THROUGH UBP ALGORITHM

Forward Error correcting Codes (FEC) is a technique used for controlling errors in data transmission over unreliable or noisy communication channels. This scheme is overhead in many wireless communication systems, even though they have enhanced data rates for the GSM evolution (EDGE), because, worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) and long term evolution (LTE) have adopted low...

Multi-user OFDM Based on Braided Convolutional Codes

Braided convolutional codes (BCCs) form a class of iteratively decodable convolutional codes that are constructed from component convolutional codes. In braided code division multiple access (BCDMA), these very efficient error correcting codes are combined with a multiple access method and inherent interleaving for channel diversity exploitation into one single scheme. In this paper, we describ...

Variable-complexity trellis decoding of binary convolutional codes

We consider trellis decoding of convolutional codes with selectable effort, as measured by decoder complexity. Decoding is described for single parent codes with a variety of complexities, with performance “near” that of the optimal fixed receiver complexity coding system. Effective free distance is examined. Criteria are proposed for ranking parent codes, and some codes found to be best accord...
